About the Tennis Club
Our tennis program was begun in the summer of 2011.
No longer reserved for a few, tennis has taken to the masses in a big way. The United States Tennis Association has been hard at work lately, in a grassroots campaign to make tennis available to one and all.
Islamic School of Irving has used this opportunity to provide community children with the option to take up tennis as a lifetime hobby and sport.
June, 2011 - ISI piloted its first ever Summer Tennis Camp. Well over forty children enrolled in the camp, ranging in ages from five to twelve, all beginners.
Patterned after the USTA's QuickStart format, the tennis camp aimed to teach tennis in a fun format that stressed more on teaching a love for the game and for sports in general.
Twice a week, for six weeks, children and their USTA-trained coaches played, joked, experimented, and most of all, had loads of FUN on their new tennis adventure together. Gradually, through all the fun and games, children acquired the basic skills of stroke progression and foot-work, and of course, a love for the game.
.. and the team went on to try out their new skills at the Dallas Tennis Association's Summer SlamJammers I qualifying tournament. Braving the summer sun, our courageous players put their talents to the test against other QuickStart teams from around the Dallas area. They displayed their skills, determination, and most of all, their good sportsmanship through it all. Congratulations to the following players who qualified:
|4 year old Age Group||Maryam A.|
|5-6 years Age Group||Imaad S.|
|7-8 years Age Group||Ameen M.|
Here are pictures from the qualifying rounds - Enjoy!
All good things come to an end, and so also did our first ever tennis camp. On the last day of camp, the team got to show off their skills to parents, coaches, and to our honored guest - Bert Cole, Director of Junior Tennis at the Dallas Tennis Association.
The team also proudly displayted their well earned medals and posed with coaches and team-mates. A happy ending to a fun summer camp.
